Caracal: African Handsome Cat
66Caracal An Beautiful Cat
Most of you are wondering what a caracal is, and so did I until I saw sundays premeir of 'Speed of Life', since then I've been non stop researching about it, and here is what I've found.
The caracal is on the smaller side of the feline family, head and body length are only about 35 inches, and a maximum of forty pounds. Its diet includes birds, rodents and other small mammals, a caracal lives mainly in Africa, but can be found in the Arabian Peninsula, south-west and central Asia, and as far as Turkmenistan and central India. However, its most defining characteristic is its jump, over ten feet. And to keep it from injuring itself on impact is its joints and large paws act as shock absorbers. A caracal can be seen late evenings or at night, hunting, large paws pad silently, while keen ears listen for any sign of predators, and sharp eyes keep the lookout for prey.
This handsome cat has short, dense reddish-brown fur and the under parts of its chin and body are white, while a narrow black line runs from the corner of the eye to its nose. Its ears are long, narrow and tipped with long black tufts of hair. A caracal has a long slender body, long legs and a tapering tail which is about a third the length of its body.
